Course Description: This custom presentation has been created with the acute care OT/OTA in mind and those beginner to intermediate OT/OTA and CHT’s working in outpatient settings. We will present 3 commonly seen acute care scenarios and work through each one in a group setting to understand the anatomy, healing time frames and management of these injuries to prepare them for discharge.

Objectives: To understand the importance of early intervention with orthopedic upper extremity injuries and how best to prepare them for positive outcomes by addressing- positioning, orthotics, home programs, edema, and pain management

7:30- 8am- Registration

8:00- 8:20am- Introductions, review of objectives

8:20-9:20am- Case Study # 1- Multiple flexor tendon injuries

9:20-9:30am- Break

9:30-10:30am- Case Study # 2- Mid-humeral fracture

10:30-11:30am- Case Study # 3- ‘Fight bite’, Hand infection

11:30-noon- Discussion, Questions, Wrap Up
