Pediatric flexor tendon injuries are similar to those seen in adults with a few exceptions. The post-operative treatment approach with pediatric patients has historically been largely different.

Although the tendons of children are smaller than adults, there have been advances in surgical repair techniques that permit changes to the post-operative treatment. There is now evidence that early active motion protocols can be used with a cooperative child with a strong enough repair.

This webinar will describe a phased treatment approach for a pediatric patient after flexor tendon repair in zone II. The outlined protocol cautiously progresses tendon gliding and joint mobility while respecting tissue healing. It highlights strategies to help improve home program compliance and orthotic use, as well as, suggest creative therapy ideas for this population.

Supplemental information will be provided for home program instruction, fabrication of a pediatric dorsal blocking orthosis, and case presentation for a pediatric patient.
